Storage and Handling

Round Lavender PU Jewellery Case 1

Storing & Handling

The way you store and handle your jewellery is just as important as cleaning if you want your jewellery to stay in good condition. We have put together this guide on storing and handling your jewellery to give you all the information you need to keep it in tip top condition.

As funny as it sounds, simply by wearing your jewellery everyday or as regularly as possible can help you keep your jewellery in great condition. However if your jewellery collection is too large to wear all at once, (as i’m sure most jewellery lovers’ collections are! 😉) check out some of our favourite tips to keep those precious pieces of jewellery full of life and lustre…

Storing Your Jewellery 💖

It is best to be careful when storing your Jewellery and to keep each piece separate. Do not keep pieces together where they could scratch and scuff one another, or where chains and necklaces could become entangled. It is often best practice to keep jewellery in separate boxes, air tight zip lock bags or a jewellery box/case which allows you to separate your pieces to prevent this.

It is recommended to make sure chains and necklaces are fastened when being stored as to prevent the chain getting tangled with itself. This is especially important for more delicate chains with a smaller width.

Jewellery likes to live in dark, cool and moisture free environments. If you can throw one or two packets of silica gel in your jewellery box it will help suck the moisture out of the air. We often provide a packet of silica gel with our jewellery inside the box provided.

Try to keep your jewellery away from chemicals as they may react with and tarnish your precious metal jewellery. If by chance you do spill any chemicals on your jewellery, just give it a rinse and wash it off as soon as you can.

If travelling with your jewellery, we would have to recommend using a jewellery travel pouch as they allow to keep your pieces separate and secure while you are out and about.

Wearing & Handling Your Jewellery ✨

The chemicals inside products that we use every single day can have a negative effect on your precious metal jewellery. We recommend using perfumes, lotions, hairsprays and other cosmetic products before you put on your jewellery to avoid getting your jewellery covered in these products. The general rule of thumb for putting on and taking on your jewellery is “last on, first off”.

Take your Jewellery off before going to bed or when doing any activity that could end up damaging it, for example during exercise. This is because perspiration can also tarnish precious metal jewellery and there is also the risk of damaging or breaking your jewellery when wearing it during physical activity.

It is best to avoid wearing precious metal jewellery on the beach. The salt water, sand and direct sunlight will do no favours for precious metals. This is especially true if you will be using sun cream as the chemicals inside may cause jewellery to tarnish.

If your jewellery does get damaged, there is a good chance it can be restored by a professional jeweller. It is not always best to try repairs yourself unless you are trained or have the knowledge to do so. By trying to repair your jewellery yourself, you risk damaging it even more to the point that it is beyond repair or not worth the cost of repair which would be shame.
