What Type Of Watch Are You Cleaning?
Before cleaning your watch, it is important to know what kind of watch it is that you are cleaning. This means knowing the difference between a waterproof watch and a water resistant watch…
Water resistant means that the watch can be submerged in water up to a certain pressure. Water resistant watches are usually attributed as ’50m water resistant’, ‘100m water resistant’ or another number. However this does not mean that you can submerge your watch up to 50m underwater. It simply refers to the amount of pressure that the watch can be exposed to.
Waterproof means that the watch is watertight, however it is important to know that no watch is 100% waterproof. This is especially true if you factor in wear and tear, damaged seals or a loose crown. It is recommended to get your watch checked over once a year to make sure everything is ok.
For watches that aren’t waterproof or water resistant, it is recommended to avoid water or any kind of moisture. This is important to take note of when cleaning your watch. These kind of watches can be easily cleaned with a jewellery wipe.
Most watch brands will provide information on how best to care for their watches. Since watches can be made with different materials, there is not really a shoe fits all approach to cleaning watches. With that said though, most watches can generally be cleaned in the same way…
